Broadway Theatre Connection was originally created to forge a direct relationship between professional New York City Theatre Artists and the Greater New Orleans Theatre Community. BTC currently offers Workshops and Master Classes in multiple cities throughout the United States providing opportunities for education, mentorship and intensive training. We connect Broadway performers, choreographers, directors, casting directors, voice coaches and agents to students with a passion for developing their musical theatre skills.
Founders
Jessica Hartman and Jason Lacayo are Louisiana natives that have gone on to exciting careers in the theatre and arts industry. BTC was born out of the desire to give back to the community that was the springboard for their success. They are thrilled at the success of Broadway Theatre Connection and the ability to offer this caliber of training in multiple cities across America.
Jessica Hartman
Jessica has had the honor of working with some of the best directors, choreographers, and stars of the Broadway world such as Liza Minnelli, Gregory Hines, Donna McKechnie and Jerry Herman to name a few. Some of her choreography credits include The Boy From Oz on Broadway starring Hugh Jackman (Associate Choreographer/Dance Captain/Swing) where she also served as Hugh’s Dance Coach, Lysistrata Jones on Broadway (Associate Choreographer), Showtune Off-Broadway (Assistant Director and Choreographer to Joey McKneely), as well as working with Tony nominated Broadway Choreographer, Dan Knechtges on Broadway, Off-Broadway, in Berlin, and around the country.
She recently choreographed a world premiere at the Kennedy Center that moved to The New Victory Theatre in NYC, as well as All Shook Up at The MUNY. She Served as Associate Show Director and choreographer for Disney Jr. Dance Party at Disneyland, and is currently working on a project for Universal Studios in Orlando. Jessica has had the honor of working at the Goodspeed Opera House, TUTS, 5th Avenue Theatre, Signature Theatre, The MUNY, Arena Stage, Pasadena Playhouse, The New Victory Theatre, the NYC Fringe Festival, Ford’s Theatre, Dallas Theatre Center, Olney Theatre as well as choreographing new shows for Norwegian Creative Studios/Oceana Regatta and Sirena as well as for Carnival Cruise Lines.
Besides performing on Broadway, Jessica has performed all over the world at many venues including Radio City Music Hall in NYC, La Scala Opera House in Milan, Arena Stage in DC and at Lincoln Center with the New York City Opera and New York Philharmonic. She is the Artistic Director/Co-Founder of Broadway Theatre Connection which holds programs in New Orleans and St. Louis. Jessica is originally from New Orleans, LA and has a BFA in Musical Theatre from Florida State University.
Jason
Lacayo
Jason was raised in the Lakeview area of New Orleans, La. Jason began his dance training at the Giacobbe Academy of Dance and performed locally with the New Orleans Youth Ballet, The Delta Festival Ballet, Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre and The New Orleans Opera. Because of the level of training and experience that he received while he was in New Orleans, Jason was offered a dance scholarship to attend Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas and received a degree in Communications.
Upon graduating from SMU, Jason relocated to Los Angeles where he decided to utilize his dance background to access other opportunities in theater and the entertainment industry. As a result of that decision, he performed in National tours, feature films, television, regional theatre, dance theatre, commercials, music videos, industrials, commercial print, with multiple opera companies and on Broadway. Jason has performed across the US, throughout Canada and in China.
Jason worked with many choreographers, composers and directors such as: Andy Blankenbuehler, Arthur Seidelman, Brad Rouse, Casey Nicolaw, Charles Strauss, Chistopher D’amboise, Clayton Phillips, Danny Pelzig, David Leveaux, James Brennan, Jerry Mitchell, John Kander, Jonathan Butterell, Peggy Hickey, Placido Domingo, Rob Ashford, Sam Mendes, Sergio Trujillo, Susan Stroman and Travis Payne. Some of his favorite projects include: Fiddler on the Roof (Broadway), Contact (First National Tour), Across the Universe (Feature Film), Chicago (Macau, China: International Music Festival), Kiss of the Spiderwoman (National Tour), The Santa Fe Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Opera Pacific, New York City Opera and Bloomer Girl (Encores! City Center, NY).
Faculty
The BTC faculty are currently working professionals in the theatre industry. The number of faculty present is based on the total enrollment of students per session. Broadway Theatre Connection guarantees a well-rounded workshop experience and an unmatched caliber of teachers.
